APPLIED VEHICLE DYNAMICS
TRC Inc.’s Applied Vehicle Dynamics Team provides world class, evaluation and analysis of vehicle, ride, handling, and lateral performance, up to and exceeding the limit. 7.5 Mile Track
The 7.5-mile (12.1 km) High-speed Oval Test Track contains four asphalt lanes on the front straightaway and curves and five asphalt lanes on the back straightaway. The 7.5-mile (12.1 km) test track’s parabolic banking allows neutral speeds up to 140 mph (225 km/h). The test track features level 2-mile (3.2 km) straightaways and possible tests include: mileage accumulation, brake burnishes, fuel economy, and coastdown testing.

Winding Road Course
Vehicle testing on the 1.5-mile (2.4 km) winding road course with wet and dry pavement capabilities provides input for vehicle handling. This course also contains two depth-controlled hydroplane test areas as well as a 203-foot (61.8m) radius wet vehicle dynamics handling area. Driver training and “ride and drives,” as well as driver distraction and collision avoidance studies, can be performed on this course.

Vehicle Dynamics Area
The Vehicle Dynamics Area, which sits on a 50-acre (20-hectare) asphalt pad with an acceleration loop at each end, is a multipurpose facility for vehicle dynamic testing, durability testing, brake testing, performance testing, product demonstrations, and driver training. It also includes the Jennite Pad, where traction trailers are calibrated.

Skid Pad
This course is used for brake and low-speed durability testing. This 84-ft. (25.6 m) by 9,000-ft. (2,743m) facility contains five smooth lanes for braking, flanked by two lanes utilized for rough road durability testing. The durability courses contain rough road surfaces, such as resonance, impact and chatter bumps, chuckholes, V-ditches, twists and washboards for testing chassis body and suspension components. This facility also contains six crosswind generators capable of producing wind gusts up to 40mph (64.4 km/h).

Dynamics Handling Course
TRC’s proving ground offers a 1.75-mile (2.8 km) asphalt course consisting of a variety of slow, medium, and high-speed corners, slight elevation changes, and turns of varying camber. This facility is used for vehicle dynamics studies, performance evaluation, and driver training.
