The biomechanics group at is seeking an engineering technician for support of the crash test dummy laboratory. In order to maintain, prepare, and qualify dummies for testing, the lab frequently procures new or existing dummy parts and/or instrumentation.  Additionally, data generated from testing in the dummy lab must be extracted and compiled for reporting.  The engineering technician in this role would provide technical support for dummy lab procurement recommendations, tracking purchases and spending, and data extraction/compilation.


Essential Functions*

  • Communicate with TRC engineering staff, customer, and external vendor to procure items necessary to maintain, prepare, and qualify dummies for testing
  • Prepare, edit, coordinate, organize, and track purchasing documents and spending
  • Extract engineering data from various prescribed but non-standardized sources; processes and presents data

  • Coordinate project schedule changes and scope of work with project teams
  • Control and monitor cost, progress, and quality of assigned projects
  • Assist in presentation and report preparation
  • Follow safety procedures; wear protective equipment including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes
  • Support TRC Inc.’s Quality and EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) efforts




  • High school diploma is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to organize and track procurements and spending
  • Practical knowledge of mechanical and electronics
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Intermediate computer skills – proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe PDF


Working conditions

  • Standard office, climate controlled environment
  • May be exposed to temperatures below 0 degree and above 95 degrees
  • May be exposed to inclement weather
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, such as gas, oil, and paint


Physical requirements

  • Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Ability to communicate with customers and co-workers
  • Capable of positioning one’s self into bending, stretching, climbing, or awkward positions
