Purpose

The Emissions Laboratory/Fuels & Lubes Engineering Technician assists engineers in preparing for testing as well as collection of test data to prepare for the customer doing both standardized and R&D testing.

 

Essential Functions*

  • Testing – Operation and maintenance of data acquisition systems, chassis dynamometer, fuel injector flow benches, and measurement equipment
  • Documentation – Collection and organization of test data; assist in analyzing data and reporting results to customer

Other Duties and Responsibilities (Non-Essential Functions)

  • Create accurate project reports
  • Maintain testing equipment in good condition
  • Document, report, and maintain test data and procedures properly
  • Instrument test vehicles with sensors and data logging equipment
  • Operate testing equipment after training
  • Assist in blending of fuel and additives
  • Perform non-standardized assignments
  • Assist in making continuous improvements to testing procedures
  • Write reports and analyze data
  • Recognize and react to data trends or test implications
  • Follow safety procedures; wear protective equipment including safety glasses and safety-toed shoes
  • Support TRC Inc.’s Quality and EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) efforts

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma is required
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology
  • Advanced technical knowledge with experience in a testing and/or research and development organization preferred
  • High level proficiency with data handling in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Able to plot and summarize data in presentable manner to submit test results to customer
  • Hands on technical skills, automotive repair and maintenance experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willing to take day trips to local suppliers semi regularly
  • Willing to travel overnight on rare occasions
  • Willing to work overtime when required
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including interacting with customers

 

Working conditions

  • Climate controlled primary work area
  • Small team of engineers and highly skilled mechanics
  • May be exposed to temperatures below 0 degrees and above 95 degrees
  • May be exposed to inclement weather
  • Will be exposed to fuels, oils, and chemicals with PPE provided
  • Some travel is required

 

Physical requirements

  • Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Capable of positioning one’s self into bending, stretching, climbing, or awkward positions
