Mark-Tami Hotta named President and CEO of Transportation Research Center Inc.
The Board of Transportation Research Center Inc. (TRC Inc.) is proud to announce that Mark-Tami Hotta has been selected as the new President and CEO and will start his new position on April 13, 2015.
Mark-Tami summarized his excitement and vision about the future, “We will enhance TRC Inc.’s capabilities to provide enablers for our customers’ success while collaborating with The Ohio State University to foster state-of-the-art research and product development. Further, we will partner broadly across the industry to enable success of numerous automotive OEMs and suppliers and government entities that we serve. Additionally, we will provide economic growth to the greater Columbus area and beyond. I am very excited about the opportunities and journey we have ahead of us.”
David Williams, TRC Inc. Chairman of the Board and Dean of Ohio State University’s College of Engineering, expressed excitement about Mark-Tami’s appointment. “We were looking for a leader who understands the business, collaborates well with customers and partners, and has a track record of business transformation and growth. Mark-Tami brings 30 years of experience in the automotive industry, with extensive first-hand experience in product development, vehicle testing and proving ground operations. He has served in senior leadership positions at both an automotive OEM as well as at a tier automotive supplier. He also was a management consultant to the automotive industry, and briefly led an entrepreneurial venture for driving safety. He understands this business and is a perfect fit. We are so delighted.”
At Ford Motor Company, Mark-Tami had overall responsibility for durability engineering, vehicle test facilities, test tracks and proving grounds, driver training, and vehicle development operations, encompassing 15 facilities and over 900 people. He oversaw over $100 million in capital investment of new R&D facilities, the acquisition and divestiture of testing operations, collaboration with suppliers and competitors, as well as significant improvements in external revenue growth, customer satisfaction and driver and occupational safety. Mark-Tami also served as Chairman for the International Committee for Proving Ground Safety.
For the past 5½ years, Mark-Tami was an Executive Director at Cummins Inc., the world’s largest independent commercial engine company. He served in various roles, including Executive Director of Global Product Quality, Executive Director of Navistar Programs, and Executive Director of New Growth Businesses, all roles that tapped into his passion and track record of transformation, innovation, collaboration, customer-focus, and business growth.
Prior to joining Cummins, he was founder and president of Driving Safety International LLC, held various product development leadership positions at Ford Motor Company spanning 20 years, and was a management consultant in Booz Allen and Hamilton’s automotive and strategy practices.
At Ford, prior to running their portfolio of proving grounds and vehicle testing business, Mark-Tami also led three different global vehicle lines in Germany, Belgium, England, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and US where he managed cross-functional teams responsible for execution and delivery of product programs, and profitability for the respective vehicle line businesses.
At both Cummins and Ford, Mark-Tami was also a leader-teacher for leadership development, and has been a guest lecturer at Butler University. At Ford, he was the lead developer of 14 different driver training programs, and was the 3rd person globally to be certified as a top “Level 4” driver.
Mark-Tami has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from MIT and an MBA from Stanford. He and his wife, Anne, have three sons, Kuni, Tomo and Max.
